Practical
Considerations
Type
of Architecture and Building System
Maharishi
Sthapatya Veda design can be applied to any style of architecture and most
building systems. In North America we have seen successful Maharishi
Sthapatya Veda projects
using standard wood frame construction, concrete tilt-up construction,
timber frame, factory built, and even straw bale and other green
technologies.

Importance
of Precision
Creating
buildings that harness the full potential of Natural Law is a very
delicate process that brings immeasurable benefit to the lives of those
who live and work in the buildings and to the environment for many
generations to come. In order to achieve these profound benefits it is
necessary to follow the guidelines and information given during the
Maharishi Sthapatya Veda Consultation with a high degree of accuracy and
precision. The Maharishi Sthapatya Veda Consultation addresses two main
areas––site/architectural plans and methods/materials of construction.
This means that not only do all the drawings have to be prepared with
absolute accuracy but also the surveying of the land and the actual
on-site construction have to be carried out with great attention to detail
and precision.

Choosing
a Builder and Surveyor
It is
important that your contractors and surveyors have a complete
understanding of your desire to lay out your site and create your building
with a high degree of precision. Just as with your architect, we recommend
that you choose surveyors and contractors that have a reputation for good
attention to detail and follow-through and are known to take pride in
their work. It is also important that your builder has a flexible
disposition and won’t mind taking some direction from the Maharishi
Sthapatya Veda Consultation Service. It is
good if they seem interested in helping you apply this special knowledge.
The key
to successful construction of a Maharishi Sthapatya Veda design building
is frequent survey checks and dimensional checks as appropriate during
each phase of the construction process. Builders and contractors should
understand and agree right from the beginning that the goal is to achieve
accuracies of 1/8" or better if possible for your project. You will be checking the footprint
dimensions, as well as the measurements for each room, hallway, wall
thickness, elevation height and Vastu (the area around the building
enclosed by a fence). During the Consultation you will
receive certain proven procedures that Maharishi Global Construction and
other builders experienced with Maharishi Sthapatya Veda design projects
developed during the past few years. Using these procedures, builders have
achieved these accuracies even in very large projects. It is recommended
to choose a builder who will do whatever is necessary to build to the
exact measurements given.

Surveying
To
determine the exact orientation for your home or building you will need to use a professional
surveyor who is knowledgeable and equipped to do sun shots or star shots.
The surveyor should first establish the true cardinal directions with
extreme precision. Any deviation in this regard could substantially reduce
the benefits obtained through this knowledge. You will also need your
surveyor roughly 5-7 times during the construction process to ensure the
accuracy of construction. It is recommended that you have two different
surveyors check each other’s work, especially as you are first
establishing the initial layout of the site and building. Alternatively,
Maharishi Global Construction also has approved surveyors to double check
your survey work prior to the start of any construction. You may contact
us for details.

Cost
of Building
Most
clients in North America have found that it is somewhat more expensive to
build according to Maharishi Sthapatya Veda design than with standard
construction. Keep in mind the following list of
features that you will be asked to consider for MSV building that you
might not ordinarily include in a project:
-
Approximately
five to seven surveying sessions (usually costs $1,000-2,000 or more
depending on size and complexity of project)
-
Somewhat
different wall construction, but still using standard materials if you
choose (i.e., 2x4s, 2x6s, sheet rock, concrete, brick veneer, log,
etc.)
-
Plinth
(a raised foundation between grade level and first floor with
specified proportions and a decorative appearance)
-
Brahmasthan
(open atrium-type space in center of building usually beneath skylight
or a cupola with windows)
-
Kalash
(a special MSV roof ornament available through MGC)
-
Vastu
yard fence
-
Optional:
columns, entablature, other Vedic ornamentation
-
Natural,
non-toxic building materials (We have many suggestions, many of which
add very little cost to a project.)
-
Possibility
of the need for more land in order to establish a correctly oriented
Vastu

Back Using
Natural Materials
An
important aspect of creating a Maharishi Sthapatya Veda home
or office is building with natural, non-toxic materials suitable to your
local weather conditions. This includes such construction materials as naturally treated
and painted wood, logs, bricks, hardiboard, rammed earth, adobe, and straw
bale. It is possible to use conventional wood frame construction. This is
what most people do, but it is not ideal. It is also best to use natural finishes; for example marble and
tiles, natural fibers for carpets, curtains and furniture; and healthy,
natural, non-toxic paints, glues and wallpaper. Ideally all materials in
Maharishi Sthapatya Veda (MSV) design buildings should be pure and
healthy. In
ancient times, unnatural or toxic building materials did not exist. No one
knew what measures to take against harmful electromagnetic radiation, for
example, because the only electromagnetic influences were
natural ones. Building materials with harmful side effects have only been
developed in relatively recent years, From the perspective of MSV
architecture -- architecture in accord with Natural Law -- unnatural
materials should be avoided because they violate Natural Law. Many
sources for natural building materials are available on the Internet.
Building supply companies increasingly research and sell non-toxic
materials and finishes. We encourage you to do your own research and
use the most natural building materials available for the most healthy,
auspicious, ideal Veda Home you can create.
